In a season in which they won every national title, FC Porto’s academy players sought to acquire new skills off the pitch and swapped football for dance, trying out disciplines such as capoeira, flamenco and breaking. All of this was part of the InspirArte project, which promotes the human and cultural development of players from under-15 to under-19 level.
More than teaching artistic techniques, the programme aims to provide transformative, practical and memorable experiences capable of sparking interests, broadening horizons and enriching the young athletes’ development journey.
The three sessions in each discipline – held in the studio and on the pitch – involved around a hundred participants, who came to understand that a footballer’s development does not end with the competitive context or sporting performance.
Developing people who are able to think, communicate, create and respond to different challenges is one of the great responsibilities of FC Porto’s training model, which is why InspirArte emerges as an initiative for human and cultural development, using art as a tool for exploration, learning and growth.
Exploring new forms of expression, promoting creativity and flexible thinking, strengthening self-awareness and confidence, stimulating social and emotional skills, engaging with different artistic and cultural expressions, and developing abilities transferable to football and to life are some of the programme’s objectives, as it seeks to provide transformative, practical and memorable experiences capable of sparking interests, expanding horizons and enriching young people’s development path.
InspirArte is part of a broader vision of the player’s all-round development, complementing other areas already being worked on in parallel – such as the activities of the nutrition, psychology and pedagogy departments, entrepreneurship and volunteering.
