A commanding win for Inter over Fiorentina on Serie A matchday nine: the Nerazzurri won 3-0 at San Siro, with a convincing performance filled with technical quality and class. Everything happened in the second half, with Çalhanoğlu's decisive brace and Sučić's extraordinary goal. The Nerazzurri created a host of chances on goal in the second half, which were denied by some exceptional saves from David De Gea.
It was an evening during which magic from two midfielders made the difference. The Inter number 20 opened the scoring with a precise strike from outside of the box before then scoring his fifth league goal from the penalty spot. At this moment in time, Çalhanoğlu is the league's joint-top scorer with Orsolini.
This is the third time that Çalhanoğlu has scored more than once in a Serie A game: three braces, two of which have happened this season (against Juventus and Fiorentina). The other previous occasion was in Monza vs. Inter.
Fiorentina is the Turkish international's favourite team to play against: he's already scored seven against the Viola. Since the 2017/18 season (his first in Serie A), Çalhanoğlu is just one of two midfielders with the most goals from outside of the box: 18 like Ruslan Malinovskyi. Overall, the only player to score more from outside of the box in this period is Paulo Dybala.
A slalom run through the opponents, the ball dancing along with the drag across before the right-footed strike from yards out. It was an unforgettable night for Petar Sučić, who scored his first goal for Inter, against the Viola. It's a goal that will stay in the memories of the Inter fans who were present at San Siro, for a long time.
Amongst the midfielders in Serie A that have had more than two goal involvements this season, only Nico Paz (2004) is younger than Petar Sučić (October 2003) - a goal in two assists for the Nerazzurri.
At the end of the match, the San Siro crowd showed their appreciation to Edin Džeko - who came on the Viola in the second half. The Bosnian forward spent two seasons with the Nerazzurri, playing 101 games, scoring 31 goals and winning four trophies.
