Inter will focus in particular on three extensions among the many on their docket: Hakan Calhanoglu, Federico Dimarco, and Carlos Augusto. The talks with their respective entourages have restarted after a brief stoppage because they changed the apical director, parting ways with Piero Ausilio and promoting Dario Baccin. Their recent renewals with Francesco Pio Esposito and Yann Aurell Bisseck were concocted by the previous exec.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via PressReader), the Nerazzurri would like to keep everybody and don’t want to irk the players and their representatives. However, they prefer contracts based mostly on bonuses and add-ons rather than on big base salaries.

Calhanoglu is the most pressing case because his Inter deal runs out at the end of the season, while there’s more time to haggle with Dimarco and Augusto. The Scudetto champions have gone back and forth on whether to keep the Turk. He’s been splendid when available but has also dealt with several muscular problems over the last season or so.

He’ll likely stay in San Siro if he accepts that kind of contract and the parties manage to keep it close to his current numbers, about €6M annually. Instead, the leading Serie A MVP aims to reach that level in a pivotal extension, as his wages have never been very high. Finally, the Brazilian was talked into staying last summer and is due for a pay bump as well, as he’s started the season very well.

Our Take on Inter, Calhanoglu, Dimarco, and Augusto

The ‘regista’ will likely be the only thorny instance. Incentive-based deals like the Paulo Dybala one are great for clubs but not always well received by players. They’ll need to prove to be skilled negotiators to find the right compromises.
