Inter have opened talks with the Percassi family over Marco Palestra and are pushing to close a deal, even though Atalanta have not set an asking price, Gazzetta reports.
The Nerazzurri president, Beppe Marotta, has already held discussions with co-owner Antonio Percassi. Inter view the wing-back as a rare chance to secure a promising Italian, with the player currently earning €280,000 a year.
Palestra will return to Atalanta after a one-season loan at Cagliari, where he made 37 Serie A appearances, registering four assists and scoring once. He also made his Italy debut in March during World Cup qualifiers.
Atalanta are yet to determine a price while they review the club structure amid the imminent appointments of sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and coach Maurizio Sarri.
Inter’s pursuit is said to be independent of Denzel Dumfries’s future, and the defender has a €25m release clause that activates in July.
Previous reports suggested Dumfries’ agent held talks with Liverpool and Barcelona, though no bids have arrived and a decision is unlikely before the World Cup. Inter plan to sell Luis Henrique after a disappointing debut season, which would free up space for Palestra.
