Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga feels that the biggest problem that Nerazzurri-owned keeper Andrei Radu will face is struggling to live down the very high-profile errors that he has recently made.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Zenga gave a goalkeeper’s perspective on the Romanian’s experiences, and suggested that it will be tough for Radu to make any mistakes without them being compared to two howlers that he has made.
Radu was very close to getting his debut on loan with Cremonese off to the right start as his saves had been important for the newly-promoted side to preserve a 2-2 scoreline against Fiorentina into the final moments, but then the 25-year-old inadvertently carried a cross-shot by Viola midfielder Rolando Mandragora into his own net.
The Romanian will have been especially desperate for a positive debut given that his last experience on a football pitch had seen him make a disastrous error in possession that allowed Bologna to beat Inter 2-1 whilst he was deputizing for Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic.
“The only problem I see for him is that now every time he makes an error, it will be compared to the ones he made against Bologna and Fiorentina,” Zenga explained, “if we start to remember the mistakes made by any goalkeeper, myself included, we could go on without end.”
“I heard people say that Rolando Mandragora’s cross should have tipped over, but from my point of view as a goalkeeper and coach I saw it as a goalkeeper trying to avoid conceding a corner in the 95th minute,” he analyzed Radu’s most recent error.
“Then, unfortunately, he collided with the post and lost control of the ball,” he continued.
