With Spain beign the first World Cup finalist, Argentina and England will battle in a few hours to see who will play against the Spanish side.
On one side are Lionel Messi, Inter Miami’s captain and superstar, and Rodrigo De Paul, both World Cup champions in Qatar 2022 but still hungry to lift the trophy once again.
However, this time the story is not about the semifinal involving our two Herons.
Instead, Inter Miami have made their move and completed the signing of a new player in the last few hours.
In the last couple of games, Inter Miami has built a solid defense with Falcon Perez and Lujan. However, the Herons don’t have enough decent defenders to rotate the two starters when it matters.
At first, you had Tomas Aviles, but he was sent on loan and didn’t finish in a good way. You also had Martinez for a while, but his loan was finished.
Now, Inter Miami has signed Ecuadorian defender Fricio Caicedo on loan. The correct details, as the Heron’s official website states, are:
“Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed Ecuadorian center back Fricio Caicedo from Costa Rican club FC Moravia FCM through the conclusion of Major League Soccer’s 2027 Sprint Season. Caicedo is eligible to occupy a U22 Initiative roster slot and is awaiting receipt of his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).”
The 18-year-old joins Inter Miami as one of Ecuador’s most promising defensive prospects. Standing at 1.96 meters (6-foot-5), the left-footed center back arrives from the Costa Rican side FC Moravia.
During his announcement conference, Fricio Caidedo explained why he chose Inter Miami over his other offers:
“My goals are to play, earn minutes, become a starter, and win many trophies. I came to Miami because I desired to be alongside Messi, who is undoubtedly the best player in the world. I’m here to make history and show what I’m capable of.”
As such a young defender, the expectation is that he will first gain experience and valuable playing time.
However, if he develops into the top prospect the Ecuadorian media and fans believe he can become, Inter Miami could view him as a long-term project, one that may eventually result in a lucrative transfer to Europe or another major league.
Here, the Herons made a terrific scouting. Why? If the players meet the expectations, they could buy him; if not, he returns to his club at the end of his loan, and the team doesn’t spend a dime on him.
