In the Leagues Cup final that pitted Inter Miami against the Seattle Sounders, the franchise’s players seriously lost their composure. While Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez completely lost their cool in the closing stages, Lionel Messi also saw red.

Frustrated, the Argentine star targeted Pedro de la Vega, as reported by pundit Alan Gordon. “Messi said something to him. Remember when they argued during the match? Messi told him to his face: ‘You’ll never play for the national team as long as I’m around.’ That’s what happened. I find it disgusting,” the former US international revealed on the Major League Journeymen podcast.

Faced with the threat, the main man in question tried not to escalate the controversy. “Messi is the best. He’s a world champion, my idol. What happened was part of the game. I tried to stay focused and not take it personally,” the young player admitted.
