Inter Miami is set to play its first match in the FIFA Club World Cup against Egyptian giants Al Ahly. With stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, the team hopes to recreate the success they enjoyed with FC Barcelona in 2009, 2011, and 2015.
Currently sitting third in the Eastern Conference, five points behind the leaders, Inter Miami comes into the tournament with momentum after back-to-back wins that ended a four-game winless streak. The Herons are eager to showcase the quality of Major League Soccer on the global stage.
Al Ahly, meanwhile, recently drew 1-1 in a friendly against Pachuca, with a goal from former Aston Villa winger Trezeguet, before falling in the penalty shootout. Domestically, they are in top form —unbeaten in seven league matches and riding a six-game winning streak to win the domestic Egyptian Premier League title again.
Time: Sunday, June 15, 8 pm ET

Mascherano is expected to stick with his preferred 4-3-3 formation, which he has used consistently throughout the season, including in the Eastern Conference against Columbus Crew. Messi, Busquets and Suárez are all set to start. Jordi Alba, however, is dealing with an injury and was ruled out recently.
Yannick Bright, David Ruiz, Baltasar Rodriguez, Gonzalo Luján and goalkeeper Drake Callender will join Alba on the injured list. The hope is Alba and some others can return to the squad later in the tournament.
Al Ahly’s head coach, Jose Riveiro, is likely to continue with his preferred 4-2-3-1 setup, which provides a compact defensive structure and allows the team to drop back with up to six players during counterattacks.
It's the same system he used in their recent domestic finale against Pharco in the Egyptian Premier League and in the friendly against Pachuca. The Spanish manager has a full squad at his disposal.
Inter Miami projected lineup (4-3-3, right to left)
Ustari (GK) – Weigandt, Falcon, David Martinez, Alllen – Cremashi, Busquets, Segovia- Messi, Suárez, Allende
El Shenawy (GK) - Hany, Dari,Rabia, Attiyat Allah - Tawfik, Ateya - El Shahat, Ashour, Bencharki - Abou Ali.
Inter Miami has a good chance of securing a win against Egyptian side Al Ahly. They’re coming off a dominant 5-0 victory over Columbus Crew, and Mascherano’s squad is determined to prove themselves on the global stage.
The Herons boast world-class attacking talent, with players like Messi and Suárez capable of scoring against any opponent. However, their main weakness lies in defense. The forwards offer little defensive support, often leaving the back line exposed and outnumbered. Because of this, it’s likely that Al Ahly will find the back of the net.
