Lionel Messi and Inter Miami complete Group A play at the 2025 FIFA World Cup on Monday night against Brazilian giant Palmeiras.
Messi and company are coming off a 2-1 victory over FC Porto, the first ever for an MLS club against one from UEFA in a competitive fixture. Meanwhile, Palmeiras edged past Al-Ahly 2-0 in their second group game after drawing Porto in their opener.
Both teams would be guaranteed to progress with a draw. But is that how it will turn out?
Here's everything you need to know for Monday night's match.
After trying out some other systems through the spring, Miami manager Javier Mascherano has settled back into a 4-4-2 (of the empty bucket variety) in recent weeks.
Fullback Jordi Alba was able to return to action off the bench in the win against Porto and perhaps will return to Mascherano's XI. More likely, he'll be able to go from the start in the knockout phase, provided Miami gets that far.
Meanwhile, Palmeiras have toggled between a 3-4-3 and a 4-2-3-1 this season, but with an aim toward limiting Messi and Luis Suarez (and perhaps playing on the counter), the three-back setup feels more likely here.
Oscar Ustari (GK) - Marcelo Weigandt, Ian Fray, Maxi Falcon, Noah Allen - Tadeo Allende, Ben Cremaschi, Sergio Busquets, Telasco Segovia - Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez
Weverton (GK) - Agustin Giay, Gustavo Gomez, Murilo Cerqueira - Felipe Anderson, Richard Rios, Anibal Moreno, Joaquin Piquerez - Mauricio, Vitor Roque, Estevao Willian
It's unlikely that either side will come into this encounter looking for a draw. But the reality is that as the evening progresses, if the contest remains level it will become more safe for each side to defend its future rather than search for a lead that means relatively little.
Palmeiras is one of the tournament's most in-form defensive sides. And Miami showed a defensive resolve against Porto that could carry over, especially if Ben Cremaschi retains his place as a defensive workhorse next to Sergio Busquets.
Miami still struggle to keep clean sheets. But this one is relatively close to the vest in the end.
