We'll learn which club will represent MLS in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup final after Inter Miami hosts the Vancouver Whitecaps in Leg 2 of the semifinal on Wednesday night.

Vancouver earned a 2-0 victory in Leg 1 on goals from Brian White early and Sebastian Berhalter late, an ideal result for the Canadians. With the away goals tiebreak in play, if the Whitecaps score only once, the Herons will have to win by at least three to advance, whereas any match that finishes with the 'Caps having a -2 goal differential or better will see them through to the final.

A 2-0 Miami win would send Leg 2 to extra time, where away goals no longer apply, and potentially penalties.

Vancouver Whitecaps and Inter Miami predicted lineups

Both teams made substantial changes over the weekend while prioritizing Wednesday's second leg.

Javier Mascherano left Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba out of the team entirely in a 4-3 home defeat to FC Dallas. The fourth former FC Barcelona star on the Herons, Sergio Busquets, dressed but remained on the bench.

Mascherano pulled a bit of a surprise in Leg 1 by going with a 4-3-3. But it didn't particularly work very well, so a return to a 4-4-2 in the second leg seems likely.

Meanwhile, Whitecaps manager Jesper Sorensen made eight changes to his starting XI in a 3-1 win at Minnesota United but brought on several more contributors to the Leg 1 victory after the break. That included Pedro Vite and Sebastian Berhalter, who both scored in the victory.

Canada international Jayden Nelson made his first start in four weeks after recovering from a hamstring issue in time to come off the bench late in Leg 1 and contribute an assist. But Sorensen might not want to push the winger too quickly into back-to-back starts.

Miami comes in the game knowing they need at least two goals to prolong their tournament, and very likely more. But the problem for the Herons is that when they've typically adopted a more attacking posture, they've also been more defensively vulnerable.

In eight matches across all competitions, the Herons have only kept two clean sheets. One of them came against significantly overmatched Cavalier FC of Jamaica (who also controversially had a goal disallowed).

It's fairly likely that Vancouver gets a goal sooner or later, and that it allows the visitors to be even more conservative, knowing they merely need to keep Miami to fewer than four goals. Miami has too much talent not to find the net once or twice in front of the home crowd but falls short of the miracle.
