Inter Miami’s Nu Stadium debut finished 2-2 against Austin FC, the celebration tempered by a laboured display.

Commissioner Don Garber, David Beckham and Marc Anthony were in attendance as the hosts conceded inside six minutes, before Lionel Messi levelled four minutes later with the first goal at the new ground. According to interheron.com, the occasion did little to mask tactical concerns.

Austin FC squeezed Miami’s midfield and broke up progression, forcing Messi to drop deep to connect moves. The game became attritional.

Jayden Nelson put Austin FC back in front with a 53rd-minute counter. Javier Mascherano turned to his bench and Luis Suarez equalised on 81 minutes from German Berterame’s pass.

Player ratings reflected the balance, with Messi on eight and Suarez 7.8. Micael led the defence on 6.7, Gonzalo Lujan added 6.8 from the bench and Berterame earned 6.6. Goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair was given 6.3.

Midfield marks included Rodrigo De Paul 6.4, Telasco Segovia 6.6 and David Ayala six. Elsewhere, Noah Allen 6.2, Maxi Falcon 6.3, Ian Fray six, Tadeo Allende 6.1 and Mateo Silvetti 6.3. Daniel Pinter was not on long enough for a rating.
