Lautaro Martinez has delivered an encouraging update on his fitness ahead of Sunday’s Milan derby, with the Inter Milan and Argentina captain insisting his recovery is progressing well despite being unable to take part in one of the season’s most important fixtures.
The striker has been out of action since sustaining his injury during the Champions League playoff against Bodo/Glimt, and Cristian Chivu will again be without his captain at San Siro this weekend.
It is a significant absence, Lautaro has been the driving force behind Inter’s domestic dominance this season.
And, indeed, his goals and leadership have been sorely missed during his spell on the sidelines.
With the Scudetto now tantalisingly close, the timing of his injury could not have been more frustrating for player and club alike.

Speaking openly with supporters through DAZN’s new ‘Chat Live’ feature, Lautaro addressed a wide range of topics.
This included the emotion of winning the World Cup with Argentina to the pride he feels wearing the Inter armband.
But it was his injury update that supporters were most eager to hear.
And, duly, the captain did not disappoint.
“Day by day, better, thank you,” he said when asked about his recovery, with quotes via FCInterNews.
It was exactly the kind of message Inter fans needed ahead of the derby.
Indeed, one that could put the title out of reach for rivals AC Milan.
Lautaro also made clear that while he cannot play, his commitment to the cause is unwavering.
Asked whether he would be present at San Siro on Sunday, his reply was brief and direct.
“Always,” he said, a reminder that even from the stands, the captain’s presence will be felt.
