Concern continues to grow around Denzel Dumfries as Inter Milan await a decisive medical assessment on the Netherlands international’s lingering ankle issue.
The wing-back remains troubled by pain in his left ankle, a problem that initially appeared minor but has since become more complex.
Cristian Chivu acknowledged the situation after the Liverpool match, explaining that the injury “initially looked like a very straightforward knock.”
The issue was also played down in the early stages by Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman.
However, once Dumfries returned to Appiano Gentile, his condition failed to improve as expected.
Despite weeks of targeted therapy, the discomfort has persisted.
Indeed, prompting the club to seek further clarity.

According to Tuttosport, Inter have now opted to send Dumfries for a series of specialist consultations with leading experts in ankle injuries.
A definitive verdict is expected within a week, coinciding with the team’s departure for the Supercoppa Italiana in Riyadh.
Surgery is not currently considered the likely outcome.
However, it remains the scenario the club are anxious to rule out conclusively.
For now, Inter are not planning to intervene on the transfer market to cover Dumfries’ absence.
Meanwhile Carlos Augusto and the adaptable Diouf are also seen as viable alternatives on the right flank.
However, the paper stresses that evaluations would change immediately if Dumfries were forced to go “under the knife.”
Until then, Inter will wait, hoping medical clarity brings reassurance.
Indeed, rather than a need for emergency action in January.
