Inter Milan could push to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as early as during the January transfer window.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri could try to sign the 28-year-old for a small fee rather than waiting to sign him for nothing.

Inter have identified Tah as a major free transfer opportunity for next summer.

The Nerazzurri’s propensity for seeking out such opportunities is no big secret.

And Tah is not just a top player who is approaching the end of his contract. He is also exactly the kind of player that Inter need as a long-term replacement for a couple of key veterans.

Inter are all but certain to sign a central defender next summer.

The Nerazzurri will have to move on from experienced pair Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi sooner or later.

And Tah would be an enticing possibility for this role. The German has experience playing in the middle of a back three with Leverkusen. He is a physically imposing defender with excellent man-marking skills.

Inter Milan Could Move For Jonathan Tah As Early As January

The prospect of Tah’s availability on a free transfer has attracted the interest of quite a number of clubs around Europe.

The likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool are among the teams keen on signing the German.

And Inter are well aware of the emerging competition for Tah’s signature.

But that could provoke Inter to act early.

The Nerazzurri could try and sign Tah already during the January transfer window.

That would require outlaying a fee. But it would not have to be all that large if Leverkusen want to cash in, in light of Tah’s contract situation.

This would allow Inter to move ahead of the other big clubs targeting the 28-year-old.
