Inter Milan ‘dream’ of hiring Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone | OneFootball

It was always going to be tough to succeed Simone Inzaghi in the dugout at Inter Milan. The Italian departed the club after their thrashing in the UEFA Champions League final at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain (5-0) and was replaced by Cristian Chivu. Despite the shock exit from this year’s UCL at the hands of Bodo/Glimt, Internazionale currently sit pretty at the top of Serie A, with a nine-point gap to second-placed Napoli.

However, Chivu may not remain at the club beyond the end of the season because, as per a report from French media Foot Mercato, the Italian giants “dream” of recruiting Diego Simeone, who has just led Atletico Madrid to the semi-finals of the Champions League, thanks to a win over domestic rivals Barcelona. 

The publication understands that, behind the scenes, the club’s management has already reached out to the Argentine to sound out the possibility of a deal. However, in parallel to those attempts, Inter are not opposed to extending Chivu’s current deal, which expires at the end of next season.
