Inter Milan’s search for a long-term successor to Yann Sommer extends beyond Guglielmo Vicario, with Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu now emerging as a prime target.

With Sommer not getting any younger and unlikely to extend his expiring contract, the Nerazzurri are carefully mapping out their future between the posts.

Indeed, without yet committing fully to Josep Martinez as the long-term solution.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Vicario remains a profile appreciated in Via della Liberazione.

Indeed, he would be open to a return to Italy.

However, two factors complicate that path: age and cost.

The former Empoli keeper turned 29 this season, while Tottenham would demand a fee in the region of €25–30 million.

Figures that, as the paper notes, “do not exactly match the parameters set by Oaktree,” especially for an investment of that size.

That is where Atubolu comes into focus.

The Freiburg No.1 is considered a far more future-proof option.

Indeed, having enjoyed a sharp rise in the Bundesliga and earned recognition within Germany’s national team setup.

Of Nigerian descent and born in 2002, Atubolu is viewed internally as a higher-upside option than peers such as Caprile or Suzuki.

Another key advantage is financial.

Atubolu’s contract reportedly includes a release clause worth around €15–16 million.

“A figure with all the hallmarks of an opportunity,” even if competition is expected.

Milan are also monitoring the market closely, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Mike Maignan’s future.

Inter, however, are positioning themselves early, intent on securing the right profile for the next cycle.
