Inter Milan have identified Como’s Nico Paz and Bologna’s Santiago Castro as potential building blocks for a squad revitalization.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that one of Inter’s major priorities next summer will be to make the squad younger.

It is no secret that Inter are aiming to give their squad a more youthful look.

At the moment, the Nerazzurri have the highest average squad age of any team in Serie A.

That has not necessarily been a problem in the short term. Inter have relied on veteran experience and proven quality to win trophies domestically, and establish themselves as a force in Europe.

But this also means that there is the threat of an age-related decline looming over the Inter squad.

Moreover, Nerazzurri owners Oaktree Capital also reportedly have made it clear that they want to build their project at the club around youth.

The US fund have signalled that they’re willing to invest in players. But only if they feel that there are clear margins for growth and increase in value.

Inter Identify Nico Paz & Santiago Castro As Targets To Revitalize Squad

In midfield, Tuttosport report, there is no question that Inter see Nico Paz as a target.

The Como midfielder is only twenty years of age. He has shown great quality this season, but is at an age where it would be reasonable to expect him to improve.

The Nerazzurri see Paz as being capable of evolving tactically and becoming more versatile.

Therefore, Paz could play anywhere from the attacking pairing, to in the hole in a 3-4-1-2 formation, to dropping into the midfield trio like Luis Alberto or Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Meanwhile, in attack, Inter have been chasing Jonathan David. At 24 years old, the Lille and Canada striker is within Oaktree’s age range.

However, while David would be available on a free transfer, he would demand high wages.

Oaktree are keen to lower the wage bill at Inter.

Bologna striker Santiago Castro, on the other hand, would be a young striker who could come in as an understudy to the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, and on relatively modest wages.
