Cristian Chivu wasted no time in addressing his squad after Sunday’s derby defeat. The message was clear and unambiguous, his faith in the group is total, the Scudetto remains within reach, and there is no room for complacency or self-management in the weeks ahead.
According to Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, Inter’s fifth derby defeat in seven attempts has unsettled some certainties around the club.
The seven-point lead remains intact, but the manner of the loss raised questions.
Chivu has moved quickly to answer them internally.
He reminded his players of the quality, resources and energy at their disposal.
And, indeed, of what winning the title would mean after the heartbreak of last season.
The warning, however, was equally direct.
“The mistake would be to think you can manage or administer the lead,” Corriere write, reflecting Chivu‘s message to his group.
This squad is built to play with intensity and rhythm.
The derby showed what happens when that drops.
Against Atalanta, Inter have the opportunity to respond, and to demonstrate that Sunday was an aberration rather than a trend.
The Scudetto, if won, would be thoroughly deserved. But it will not be handed to them.
