The Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni is increasingly emerging as one of the leading candidates to strengthen FC Barcelona ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Catalan club views the Inter Milan centre back as an ideal addition to the centre of their defence, and early contacts suggest that progress could be made in the coming months.
However, this operation is far from straightforward. Bastoni remains a key figure for Inter Milan, who are expected to demand a fee in the region of €80 million, a valuation that currently exceeds Barcelona’s financial plans. As a result, alternative formulas are being explored to make the deal viable.
According to Calciomercato (via Mundo Deportivo), Inter are particularly attentive to two players within Hansi Flick’s squad, namely Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres. The Italian side values Olmo’s creativity and ability to operate as an attacking midfielder, while Ferran’s versatility across the front line also makes him an appealing profile.
Including one of these players in the negotiations could help lower the overall cost of the operation, a structure that is not uncommon in Italian transfer dealings. Nevertheless, the situation differs significantly for both footballers.
Olmo has no intention of leaving Barcelona. After returning to his boyhood club in 2024, his priority remains to succeed at the club and win titles. With a contract running until 2030, the Spaniard is fully committed to the Blaugrana project, making his involvement in any deal highly unlikely.
On the other hand, Ferran Torres’ situation is less certain. The Spanish forward has around 15 months remaining on his contract, and with no concrete renewal talks underway, his future remains open. This contractual context could make him a more realistic candidate to be included in negotiations.
Another important angle in this situation is the uncertainty surrounding Robert Lewandowski. With questions still lingering over the veteran striker’s long-term role, Barcelona must carefully weigh any attacking departures before committing to defensive reinforcements.
Ultimately, while Barcelona’s interest in Bastoni is genuine and advancing, the financial gap and player dynamics mean that any potential agreement with Inter will require significant compromise. The coming months are expected to be decisive in determining whether the Catalans can turn their priority defensive target into a reality.
