Legendary former Nerazzurri captain Beppe Bergomi feels that Inter Milan are not physically at their best, but have time to improve.

Bergomi spoke to Italian broadcaster RAI Radio 24, via FCInterNews. He gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s early season form.

So far this season, Inter’s season could probably be described as “mixed.”

It’s only the start of October. But the Nerazzurri have already played quite a few matches between Serie A and the Champions League.

And there have been some very positive results for Inter.

A 4-0 thrashing of Atalanta in the league before the September international break and a hard fought draw away to Manchester City in their Champions League opener were probably the standouts.

But there have also already been two draws in Serie A, in matches that Inter would have probably expected to win. They draw 2-2 away to Genoa in their season opener, and then 1-1 against Monza.

Meanwhile, the most damaging result of all was surely the loss to city rivals AC Milan in the derby.

Prior to that match, Inter had won six matches in a row against the Rossoneri. However, they looked second best against their city rivals this time around.

Bergomi: “Inter Milan Tired, But There’s Time To Pick Up The Pace”

Naturally, Inter will be keen to find their groove. They will be aiming to achieve the kind of relentless consistency that characterized last season.

So far this campaign, a certain lack of fitness has been evident with the Nerazzurri.

That is perhaps not too much of a surprise given the kind of summer they had. Many members of Inter’s squad came back to preseason training after EURO 2024 and Copa America participation.

But Inter are hardly the only team to have dealt with that issue.

And the Nerazzurri will know full well that they need to shake off any lack of fitness and sharpness very soon, or else risk paying for it much more than they already have.

Legendary former Inter captain Bergomi gave his thoughts on his old team’s start to the season.

“Inter look a bit tired at the moment,” he said.

“Physically they still aren’t at the level they need to be.”

“But they have plenty of times to pick up the pace and reach the right level,” Bergomi insisted.

Meanwhile, Bergomi also gave his thoughts on Inter’s city rivals Milan.

“Milan have some players who are essential to them,” he said. “I’m thinking of when Morata came on the other evening, and completely changed the game for them.”

And of the other big teams in Serie A, Bergomi said that “Lazio have done well.”

“Bergomi has given the team ideas. They won on a difficult away ground.”

“Fiorentina have won, but aren’t convincing,” Bergomi added. “They lack a bit of imagination in attack.”

“And Roma look bad. I feel a bit sorry for Juric, he has a team that doesn’t really match how he wants to play, marking man-to-man.”
