Legendary former Inter Milan striker Alessandro Altobelli feels that the Serie A title race will be tough, but Inter can aim for the title.

Altobelli spoke to Italian journalist Gian Luca Rossi, via FCInterNews. He was also harshly critical of the new Champions League format, which he says “disgusts” him.

This season, Inter are certainly right in the thick of the title race.

The Nerazzurri’s fate is very much in their own hands as they aim to be the first team to successfully defend the Serie A title since 2020.

However, it’s not going to be like last season.

Last time out, the Nerazzurri won the title by a margin of nearly twenty points in the table.

It had been a similar story the prior campaign. It was Napoli who ran away with it then.

But this season, Inter and Napoli are both very much in the mix. As are Atalanta, who currently sit atop the league table.

Then, the likes of Fiorentina, Lazio, and Juventus are not all that far behind.

Alessandro Altobelli: “Serie A Title Race Difficult, But Inter Can Do It”

“Unlike last season, there are stronger teams, like Napoli and Juve,” said former Inter striker Altobellu.

“Without forgetting Atalanta.”

“But Inter have something more than the other teams,” Altobelli argued.

“In the end, I think they’ll come out on top, even if it will be more difficult.”

Meanwhile, Altobelli gave his thoughts on the new Champions League format. “I don’t like it,” the former striker said.

“It’s all wrong. It disgusts me.”

“Give us the direct clashes again,” Altobelli argued. “Now it’s like a league.”

“The best team ends up winning anyway,” he said. “But it’s better to see matches that are more knockout matches.”

And Altobelli had a similar opinion of the new Club World Cup format.

“They’re making all this up just for money,” the 1982 World Cup winner argued.

“The fans just want to see good matches. Not 700 different competitions.”
