Denzel Dumfries admits that there is a “bitter aftertaste” after the Netherlands drew 1-1 with Poland yesterday.
The Inter wingback spoke to Dutch broadcaster NOS, via FCInterNews, after yesterday’s World Cup qualifying stalemate.
Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries started for the Netherlands against Poland yesterday.
The 29-year-old has very much cemented a starting place for himself for both club and country.
And Dumfries showed exactly why that is in the first half of yesterday’s World Cup qualifier.
Dumfries has already scored for Inter this season, bagging the opener against Udinese on Sunday.
And yesterday, the Dutchman proved yet again that he can be prolific both for his club and his country.

The Netherlands could not quite go onto score a second goal yesterday, however. Furthermore, they conceded the sucker punch of a late equalizer.
After the match, Denzel Dumfries commented that “looking at the score, the 1-1 draw is obviously a setback.”
“Especially because playing at home, you always want to win.”
Then, the Inter wingback spoke about the fact that the equalizer came after the 80th minute. “The way that it came about leaves a bitter aftertaste,” he admitted.
“We created a lot of chances throughout the match. But in the closing stages we weren’t able to capitalize and find the back of the net with that final pass.”
“But overall we played well,” Dumfries insisted. “And it’s just a shame to concede right at the end like that.”
