Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries says that he asked Empoli striker Sebastiano Esposito to swap shirts after yesterday’s match.
The Dutchman spoke to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews. He said that Esposito proved he was a “great player” with his goal off the bench.
Inter came up against a familiar face yesterday in the form of striker Sebastiano Esposito.
Technically, the 22-year-old is still a Nerazzurri player, on loan at Empoli. The Tuscan club do, however, have a purchase option at the end of the season.
Esposito is a player who came through Inter’s youth academy.
And the young striker will know many members of the Nerazzurri’s squad well.
Striker Esposito and wingback Dumfries have never been at Inter during the same season. Esposito got his spell in the Nerazzurri first team before Dumfries arrived.
However, the two players have certainly had experience together during preseason.
Inter wingback Dumfries said of Esposito that “I asked him to swap shirts.”
“In my opinion, he’s a great player,” the 28-year-old continued. “When he was here in preseason, he showed that.”
“Today he caused us a lot of problems. In the end we both scored, and I’m happy with the result.”
Dumfries said of his second half goal yesterday that “it came from a very good corner by Asllani, who’s a great player.”
“I’m happy to have score for Inter,” the Dutchman continued.
Dumfries said that “In the first half Empoli did well, they closed off the spaces and they had a lot of players behind the ball.”
“We did well to break the deadlock and win in the second half,” he continued.
Dumfries noted that “we have a lot of matches close together.”
“But we’re strong as a group,” he said. “We’re a bit tired, but we work hard every day, because we know how important this moment is for us in Serie A and the Champions League.”
