Inter Milan star Piotr Zielinski will likely have to undergo further scans before being allowed to feature against Roma this weekend.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the Polish star returned to Appiano Gentile with numerous international stars this morning.

However, Zielinski isn’t in the best physical shape.

The 30-year-old midfielder scored an opening goal in Poland’s goal-glutted 3-3 home draw against Croatia last night.

But he injured himself in the process.

With the game approaching business end, Zielinski hobbled off the pitch after he felt pain in his hamstring.

Although the former Napoli star admitted he hoped ‘it’s nothing serious,’ Inter medical team won’t take any chances.

Zielinski will undergo additional checks before receiving the go-ahead to feature in Simone Inzaghi’s matchday squad.

In addition to the Polish star, eight other first-team regulars returned to Milano in the morning.

Federico Dimarco, Davide Frattesi, Marcus Thuram, Denzel Dumfries, Stefan de Vrij, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Kristjan Asllani are back.

But Inzaghi will have to wait until tomorrow morning to reunite with Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi.

Inter Milan Star Midfielder Piotr Zielinski Set to Undergo Further Checks

Zielinski’s hamstring problem threatens to sideline him for Inter’s trip to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

That’s a shame, given that he was supposed to dislodge Henrikh Mkhitaryan from the starting line-up.

It would’ve been his maiden Serie A start for the Nerazzurri.

Unfortunately, a lack of match fitness has restricted Zielinski to only 68 minutes of top-flight action this season.

Just as Inzaghi hoped to introduce him into his starting XI, the Pole suffered another setback.

On a more positive note, Inter can call upon Nicolo Barella for the derby.

After a month-long spell on the sidelines, the Italy international is ready to reclaim his place in the starting line-up.

With Barella back, Davide Frattesi may return to the bench.
