Inter Milan are ready to reward Cristian Chivu with a new long-term contract after an encouraging first season in charge of the senior side.
While it remains to be seen whether Chivu can deliver silverware straight away, his early work has already convinced club executives that he is the right man to lead the project forward.
Chivu signed his existing contract on June 9, with an expiry set for the end of the 2026–27 season.
However, the extension is now described as a formality, with Inter planning to push the deadline back to at least 2028, mirroring the kind of rolling renewals previously handed to former coach Simone Inzaghi.

What is still to be defined is the scale of the salary increase. Chivu currently earns around €2.5m per season, and an improved package is expected.
The exact figure will depend in part on how the campaign concludes.
In simple terms, winning the Scudetto would trigger a significant rise.
Meanwhile falling short would still result in a smaller but guaranteed increase.
A deep run in the Champions League could further influence the final numbers.
Inter’s hierarchy have nevertheless made their priorities clear to Chivu.
The main objective remains restoring the Nerazzurri to the summit of Serie A. On current evidence, they believe he has laid the foundations to do just that.
