Italian football is mourning the passing of Rocco Commisso, with tributes arriving from across Serie A, including Inter Milan.
Fiorentina confirmed the death of their president overnight through official club channels.
Shortly after, Inter Milan issued a statement of condolence on social media, writing: “FC Internazionale Milano expresses its deepest condolences for the passing of Rocco Commisso. The entire club stands close to the family and to Fiorentina at this moment of mourning.”
Inter president Giuseppe Marotta also spoke personally to Radio FirenzeViola, offering a heartfelt tribute to the late Viola owner.
“First of all, I express my condolences to the family, the club and the Fiorentina supporters,” Marotta said.
“With Commisso we lose one of the last patron-style presidents, someone who invested financial and economic energy into football. He was a genuine and transparent person who made passion his driving force.”

Marotta also highlighted Commisso’s strong bond with Italy.
“We lose a man of value, great motivation and competitiveness. I only have positive memories of him,” he added.
Recalling a previous meeting at the Viola Park during the memorial for Joe Barone, Marotta explained: “It felt right to go beyond rivalry. There is respect for people. Both Commisso and Barone upheld the values of Fiorentina. That was a touching moment, just like this one. These are sad moments, and I hope his wife, who I know is very close to the sporting world, continues his work.”
Looking ahead, Marotta expressed confidence in Fiorentina’s ability to overcome this difficult period.
“It has been a tough start to the season, but Fiorentina have the structure, both at club and technical level, to recover. Even without ambitious targets this year, they have the quality to move away from the relegation battle.”
Finally, Marotta returned to a theme he has long championed: infrastructure. “Facilities are the starting point for any sporting and business activity,” he said.
“It’s not just about new stadiums. It’s about training centres where talent is developed. Fiorentina have done this with the Viola Park, which is an extraordinary facility, and our ownership has also invested heavily, putting €200 million into our own training centre.”
Marotta’s words reflected the widespread respect Commisso earned across Italian football, underlining the legacy of a president remembered not only for investment, but for values and passion.
