Inter Milan’s move for Joao Cancelo has the full backing of Cristian Chivu, with the Nerazzurri coach playing a discreet but significant role behind the scenes.

According to Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto, via FCInterNews, Chivu deliberately avoided addressing Cancelo directly in recent press conferences in order to protect the operation.

His caution in public, rather than signalling hesitation, reflected a desire not to complicate ongoing negotiations.

From a technical and behavioural standpoint, Chivu has already given Cancelo the green light.

The Inter coach has been involved in internal discussions and has approved the move, convinced that the Portuguese defender would fit both the tactical needs of the squad and the dressing-room dynamic.

Inter, for their part, have no doubts about the operation.

The club have already expressed their willingness to proceed, confident that Cancelo’s experience and versatility would add immediate value, particularly on the right flank.

The final decision, however, rests with the player. Cancelo is still waiting to understand whether Barcelona will make a concrete move, following contacts between his agent Jorge Mendes and club president Joan Laporta.

Until that clarity arrives, Inter remain on standby, but with both the club hierarchy and Chivu aligned, the Nerazzurri are ready to act as soon as Cancelo makes his choice.
