Inter Milan have rejected an opening offer from Barcelona for Alessandro Bastoni, with the Nerazzurri insisting on a minimum of €60 million before serious negotiations can begin.
According to transfer expert Orazio Accomando of SportMediaset, Barcelona’s first approach came in at €45 million.
Indeed, a figure Inter considered well short of the defender’s value.
The bid was rejected, but it does represent the opening move in what could become one of the summer’s defining transfer negotiations.
For the first time, Bastoni himself is open to listening.
That shift in his personal stance makes the situation more fluid than it has been in previous windows.
On a personal level, Barcelona have already put their cards on the table.
The Catalans have proposed a salary of €7 million plus bonuses per season.
Indeed, a significant increase on what Bastoni currently earns at Inter.
They are also using his recent difficulties in Italy, including the hostile reception he has faced at away grounds following the Kalulu incident and the red card in the play-off final, as a persuasive tool in conversations with his entourage.
The gap between the clubs remains significant.
Inter value Bastoni at a minimum of €60 million and are not prepared to move from that position without a meaningful improvement on Barcelona’s current offer.
The negotiation has started.
Where it ends will define the shape of Inter’s summer, and potentially their entire squad for next season.
