Inter Milan beat Parma 2-0 on Sunday to clinch Serie A and claim the 21st Scudetto in the club’s history, with three matches to spare.
L'Équipe notes the Nerazzurri had looked like champions since pre-season. They can no longer be caught by Napoli or AC Milan.
After four defeats in the first 12 matches, Inter pulled clear and did not relinquish top spot after matchday 15. A March wobble after Champions League play-off elimination by Bödo/Glimt ended with a 5-2 win over AS Roma.
Federico Dimarco produced his most decisive campaign. The second most used outfield player, 33 matches with 29 starts, he scored six and, above all, supplied eighteen assists to set a single season Serie A record.
With Lautaro Martínez missing eight of 10 since February and Marcus Thuram inconsistent, seven across the first 30 matchdays then six in the last five, the left wing-back became a pillar of an attack-minded Inter.
In his first season, Cristian Chivu replaced Simone Inzaghi and prioritised attack, his side scoring 82 league goals. He made clear the days of winning primarily through defence were over.
A former Inter player and youth coach, Chivu’s knowledge of the club eased the transition. He also integrated youngsters to refresh an ageing squad that had seemed at the end of a cycle after the 5-0 defeat by PSG in last season’s Champions League final.
