Marcus Thuram has described Simone Inzaghi as “one of the best coaches in the world” while speaking ahead of Inter Milan’s Supercoppa Italiana semi-final against Bologna in Saudi Arabia.

The French forward spoke to SBA Sport on the eve of the clash, touching on a range of topics that stretched beyond the immediate match.

Thuram first reflected on the influence his father, Lilian, continues to have on both his life and that of his brother, Khephren.

“He passed on a lot to us as a father,” Thuram explained, with quotes via FCInter1908.

“He taught us respect for others and the value of life. As players, he showed us the importance of staying calm and committing ourselves every day to reach our goals.”

Thuram then turned his attention to Saudi football, acknowledging the growing quality of the league and the number of elite players now competing there.

“As you can see, there are many high-level international players in the Saudi league,” he said.

“Some of the best players in the world in their positions are now playing in Saudi Arabia. There’s also Kingsley Coman. That’s why we follow it from Europe. It’s incredible, I really think it’s incredible.”

The conversation inevitably moved to Inzaghi, whom Thuram worked under at Inter before the coach’s recent departure.

The striker was unequivocal in his praise. “I think he’s a great coach and one of the best coaches in the world,” Thuram said. “I believe he’ll be successful wherever he goes.”

Finally, Thuram refocused on the task at hand, warning that Bologna represent a serious obstacle in the Supercoppa.

“The match against Bologna will be very important,” he noted. “We know they are a very strong team. We played against them last year and they won the Coppa Italia. It will be a difficult game.”

For Thuram, the message was clear: admiration for the past, respect for the present, and full concentration on a demanding semi-final challenge.
