Inter Milan striker Marko Arnautovic says that his goal is to play at the World Cup with Austria, and then he could retire.
The 36-year-old spoke to Austrian outlet Heutsch, via FCInterNews, after his national team’s win over Romania yesterday.
Marko Arnautovic has come to the end of his second season at Inter Milan. And reportedly, he will not even be part of the Nerazzurri’s squad for the Club World Cup this month.
Arnautovic’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of June. And he has played his last match for the Nerazzurri.
Arnautovic re-joined Inter from Bologna in the summer of 2023. He spent two seasons with the club, memorably winning the Serie A title last time out.
Now, Arnautovic will have a decision to make about his future.
Reportedly, Red Star Belgrade are keen on signing the Austrian. And so are clubs from the Saudi Pro League.
Arnautovic has played for the likes of West Ham United, Stoke City, and Werder Bremen already.
In the meantime, Arnautovic is with the Austrian national team. He helped them to a 2-1 win over Romania in World Cup qualifying yesterday evening.
Considering the Arnautovic will turn 37 next season, there are big doubts regarding his future. And in that respect, he may have dropped a big hint yesterday.

Arnautovic gave his thoughts after yesterday’s win over Romania. “I’m very happy for the team,” he said.
“It took us fifteen minutes to get into the game. But then we played really well.”
“Now we have to focus on Tuesday,” Arnautovic said. “The match against San Marino.”
Arnautovic commented that “as a team, we’ve participated in the Euros three times.”
“But never in a World Cup,” he noted.
“Participating in one is a personal goal of mine. Because after the World Cup, it will be over for me.”
