The 27-year-old had an interview with Sky Sport via FCInterNews ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League tie.

Despite performing below his usual high standard, Federico Dimarco has fared reasonably well this season.

Indeed, the Italian wingback has tallied one goal and two assists in five Serie A appearances under Cristian Chivu.

Furthermore, he delivered a crucial assist to Francesco Pio Esposito in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Cagliari.

However, the ex-Hellas Verona loanee came off the bench at the Unipol Domus.

After impressing in Sardinia, he will likely regain his place against Slavia Prague tomorrow.

Moreover, he was part of Chivu’s starting XI in a day-one win at Ajax.

Therefore, he remains vital to this project, even though he is still working to reach the level expected of him.

Inter have recovered from consecutive losses to Udinese and Juventus, winning three games on the spin since.

“Good, we’ve had three consecutive win, and tomorrow we’ll need to find a fourth,” Dimarco said. “In the Champions League, every match is difficult, but we must approach it the same way we did the last three.

“I think it’s clear for everyone to see the growth of the team and the club. We must do our best in every game starting tomorrow.

“We showed what we’re capable of against Ajax. Indeed, we’re strong; we’ve earned our place here two years in a row.

“Now we have to fight to go as far as possible.”

Furthermore, Dimarco has enjoyed more playing time this season than last term with Simone Inzaghi in the dugout.

However, he feels like nothing has changed despite a managerial shift.

“No, because I’ve always given 100%,” he admitted. “It’s the coach’s decision.

“Of course, playing 90 minutes more often helps you build up your condition rather than always coming off after an hour.”

Asked how Chivu is changing things at Appiano Gentile, Dimarco replied: “He’s giving us a lot. Speaking personally, he’s helping me regain the confidence I had lost.

“As for the past, we need to do as we did when we won the league – start from scratch.

“We have a new coach who is giving us new motivation, and we must follow him in the best possible way.”

Finally, he spoke highly of Inter’s rising star, Pio Esposito.

“Pio is young, a good lad who works hard every day,” Dimarco said. “He’s doing everything he can to become a top European player.

“However, I want to stress that he must be allowed to grow without too much pressure. He’s still only 20 and needs time to develop.”

Interestingly, Dimarco and Esposito both came through the youth academy.

“I’ve known him since he was five because our brothers used to play together,” Dimarco continued.
