Inter Milan star midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has eased injury concerns after his recent setback on international duty.
During yesterday’s press conference, Calhanoglu confirmed that he will feature for Turkey in today’s clash against Kosovo, as reported by FCInterNews.
Calhanoglu captained his country to a nerve-shredding 1-0 home win over Romania last Thursday.
Indeed, the Crescent-Stars squeaked past Mircea Lucescu’s side to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff final.
Potentially 90 minutes away from returning to the most prestigious international tournament for the first time since 2004, the Turks head to Pristina to face Kosovo.
Despite Turkey’s pre-match favoritism, Vincenzo Montella’s charges would be naive to underestimate Franco Foda’s team.
Kosovo stunned Slovakia in their playoff semi-final tie last week, emerging as 4-3 winners in their semi-final showdown in Bratislava.
Therefore, they’re on the brink of securing their first World Cup qualification as an independent nation.
However, Hakan Calhanoglu and his teammates will be keen to prevent that from happening.
Montella had to take the 32-year-old off in the final stages of Turkey’s narrow win over Romania.
As such, there was a question mark hovering over Calhanoglu’s head going into today’s meeting in Pristina.
However, the former AC Milan playmaker will be in contention for the starting lineup.
“I had a cramp in my leg in the last match, which is why I asked the coach to substitute me,” Calhanoglu.
“Now I’m fine, training went well. I’m ready for tomorrow. The motivation and team spirit are excellent.”
Calhanoglu’s reassuring message can encourage Cristian Chivu ahead of Sunday’s high-stakes clash against Roma.
Indeed, Inter must bounce back from a three-game winless Serie A run to maintain their stranglehold on the Scudetto.
