Mircea Lucescu will go down in history as one of the most decorated managers in world football.
Indeed, he won 35 major trophies during his illustrious managerial career.
Unfortunately, Lucescu failed to guide his beloved Romania to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as Turkey ended their qualifying run in the playoffs.
However, the former Inter Milan coach remained dedicated until the end, stepping down from the helm just days before passing.
Lucescu left behind a legacy of passion, commitment, and footballing excellence.
During his trophy-laden coaching career, Lucescu was in charge of numerous top clubs, including Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Zenit St Petersburg.
Yet, his 12-year stint at Shakhtar Donetsk truly defined his career.
Lucescu signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Shakhtar back in 2010 and launched him into stardom.
Indeed, he helped the Armenian midfielder earn a big-money move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2013.
Mkhitaryan took to Instagram to express his gratitude and sorrow, highlighting the profound impact Lucescu had on his life and career.
“Mister, you were one of my very first coaches – the one who gave me the opportunity to grow and begin my international career.
“I will forever be thankful to you for giving me the chance to live what I had dreamed about since I was a boy.
“Thank you for your guidance, your trust, and for helping shape the player and the person I am today.
“Football has lost a true gentleman and a true visionary of the game.
