Both sides will be searching for crucial points as the Serie A title race intensifies, with Inter top of the table and Milan just two points behind in an enthralling campaign that promises to deliver drama at San Siro.
Cristian Chivu’s side is dealing with several injury concerns heading into the derby, as three key defenders will be unavailable for selection. Denzel Dumfries is struggling with an ankle problem and remains a significant doubt, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Matteo Darmian are both sidelined.
Carlos Augusto is expected to fill in for Dumfries on the right flank, while Petar Sucic and Piotr Zielinski are competing for the vacant midfield spot left by Mkhitaryan’s absence. The Nerazzurri’s defensive lineup will feature Sommer in goal, with Akanji, Acerbi and Bastoni forming the three-man defence.
With Dimarco on the left, the backline remains solid despite these absences. Inter come into the derby in very strong form, after winning four straight matches in all competitions.
Massimiliano Allegri’s squad have also been hampered by injuries, with Santiago Gimenez still dealing with an ankle issue that has prevented him from training with the full group. However, Adrien Rabiot has returned to team training and is ready to join Luka Modric in midfield.
The Rossoneri have recovered key attacking players for this fixture. Rafael Leao has also recovered from the hip issue he felt previously, and he already started at the Tardini match.
Christian Pulisic has put his physical issues behind him and already returned as a substitute, staying at Milanello during the international break, skipping the United States call-up by agreement with Milan to prepare for the derby. Allegri is set to field the attacking pair of Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic, who will lead the line in an unorthodox front pair
Inter Milan currently sits at the top of Serie A with 24 points from 11 matches, having recorded eight wins, scored 26 goals, and conceded 12. The Nerazzurri have also won all four of their UCL matches this season. Their recent win was against Lazio(2-1) just before the November international break in an Serie A fixture.
Milan sit in third place with 22 points after six wins and four draws. They conceded a late equaliser away at Parma. They are unbeaten since their matchday 1 defeat, but they have also lost crucial points recently as all four drawn matches were in their last six games.
