Inter Milan stalwart Federico Dimarco addressed the press ahead of Tuesday’s crucial match against Bodo/Glimt.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, the 28-year-old warned his teammates against complacency despite their healthy lead in Serie A.
Goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Manuel Akanji inspired the Nerazzurri to a 2-0 win at Lecce on Saturday.
Meanwhile, runners-up AC Milan suffered a shock 1-0 home loss to bottom-half Parma last night.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri are now boasting a substantial 10-point lead at the top of the table.
With only 12 games left to play, they are in firm control of their Scudetto fate.
Indeed, Cristian Chivu is on the verge of winning the league title in his first season in charge of the club.
However, the Italian giants are staring down the barrel of an early elimination from the Champions League.
After a 3-1 loss at Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their knockout playoff tie, they must overturn a two-goal deficit at San Siro.

“We’re Inter, we have a duty to try, Dimarco said. “Obviously, we’re facing a strong opponent with real quality.
“They’re very well organized – you don’t beat Manchester City and Inter by chance. We have to prepare for the match in the best possible way.”
Then, he confirmed that the artifical pitch in Bodo took a toll on Inter.
“The pitch had an impact, but we’re not looking for excuses. We’ll have to play an attacking game because we need to overturn the deficit.
“However, we know every Champions League match is difficult, especially against teams like this.”
Moreover, he outlined the importance of turning this playoff tie on its head.
“A lot, because the Champions League is a hugely prestigious competition, so we have the obligation to try.”
“Honestly, no,” he replied when asked whether Inter expected this to happen. “If I think back to what we went through last year… We came out of it like a great team thanks to our work and the coach and his staff.
“Not everyone can do that. It was a very difficult moment, at least for me personally. I’m happy because this group deserves a lot. And you also have to say that many teams strengthened this summer and are aiming to win, just like us.”
However, he doesn’t want Inter to take anything for granted.
“It’s only February, there are still 12 games left, so we don’t feel anything is closer. There’s a big gap, ten points? But there are still many matches to play.”
He then assessed his formidable form.
“I don’t know. I only know it’s the result of the work I’ve done and everything I’ve experienced, for better or worse, over the years. Who wouldn’t be happy? But if the assists lead to a team result, then I’m happy. Otherwise, it doesn’t count for much.”
