Cristian Chivu cut a composed and forward-thinking figure ahead of Inter Milan’s Serie A clash with Genoa at San Siro, urging his squad to channel their energy into the remaining domestic objectives rather than dwelling on Champions League elimination.

Speaking to DAZN shortly before kick-off, the Inter coach addressed the challenge of bouncing back quickly.

Especially in the context of a relentless fixture schedule.

With games coming every three days, there is little time for reflection, and Chivu made clear that suits him just fine.

“We don’t have time to think, we play every three days,” he said, with quotes via FCInterNews.

“We need to recover our energy. This is another competition where we have done quite well so far. We need to give continuity and march with the same mentality.”

On the Champions League exit, Chivu was measured and pragmatic.

Inter were eliminated by Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, attracting much criticism in the face of Chivu’s selection choices.

“We can’t change the past, we turned the page the day after. We are thinking about the remaining objectives and being competitive until the end.”

It was a message designed to draw a clear line under the European disappointment and redirect focus toward the Scudetto and Coppa Italia.

Chivu was also asked about tonight’s opportunity for Bonny, and took the chance to praise all four of his attacking options.

“We have four strikers and the numbers speak of a crazy season,” he said.

“They make themselves available, they have done great things and we must continue because now we don’t have Lautaro.”

On Genoa, Chivu was characteristically respectful.

“It will be very difficult, they are aggressive, organised. They know how to hurt you with the quality of some players. Daniele is doing a great job. Today will not be simple.”
