Inter Milan and Como go head-to-head in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Tuesday.
The Nerazzurri arrive at this fixture as Serie A’s pace setters, positioned at the summit with 67 points from 27 league matches.
Inter boast a commanding 10-point advantage over AC Milan in second place. Their latest performance delivered a convincing 2-0 triumph against Genoa at home, though their European journey concluded in disappointment following a two-legged defeat to Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League where Inter Milan lost both legs matches in the playoffs.
Como, meanwhile, are enjoying a terrific campaign under head coach Cesc Fabregas. They are in contention for European qualification and even sit just three points outside the top four.
Cristian Chivu’s squad will be missing skipper Lautaro Martinez, who picked up a soleus muscle injury in his left calf during the European fixture against Bodo/Glimt. The Argentine striker faces approximately four weeks on the sidelines.
Compounding the manager’s selection headaches, France international Ange-Yoan Bonny remains uncertain for selection after sustaining a calf problem in Saturday’s 2-0 San Siro victory over Genoa.
Sources suggest Bonny completed individual training sessions at Appiano Gentile, with his participation in the semi-final appearing increasingly unlikely.
Francesco Pio Esposito looks set to spearhead the attack at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, supported by Marcus Thuram who has been struggling to find his rhythm in recent outings.
Possible Inter Milan starting XI: Martinez; Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni; Henrique, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Esposito
The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Tuesday, 3rd March.
