Inter have already decided to buy out Manuel Akanji from Manchester City, but are also setting the stage for further moves in the back. Francesco Acerbi and Stefan De Vrij are both on expiring contracts and might not stick around, TuttoSport informs.
The Nerazzurri will pay €15M for the German center-back. His future personal terms had been agreed upon before the move. He’ll earn €4.5M annually until 2028.
Inter are casting a wide net to find the right men to rejuvenate their rearguard. In addition to Oumar Solet, for whom they are waiting to see whether he’ll solve his legal troubles and Udinese’s price tag, they have laid eyes on several options.
Sassuolo’s Jay Idzes and Tarik Muharemovic, who have been reliable in the early going, top their shortlist. Juventus hold a 50 percent resale clause on the latter. He spent some time in their Next Gen squad. Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez and Wolfsburg’s Konstantinos Koulierakis are also on their radar.
They should have signed one talent last summer so they could bring him along slowly, but they probably knew well in advance that Benjamin Pavard was bound to leave and evidently thought that one change would be plenty to digest, especially with a new boss at the helm.
Some of their targets are best suited for the ‘braccetto’ role, while others to serve as the anchor. Chances are they’ll keep one of their two veterans to avoid a deep overhaul. The result will hinge on if Akanji transitions to the middle and on Yann Aurell Bisseck proving whether he can be a reliable full-time starter, or not.
