Inter won’t necessarily slam the door shut if Galatasaray try to acquire Hakan Calhanoglu again and, at the same time, they have been in contact with the entourage of Leon Goretzka, Fabrizio Romano reports (via SOSFanta).
The Nerazzurri won’t keep the Turk at all costs, but their price tag is significant relative to his age. The Cimbom at most tendered €10/15M last summer. Giuseppe Marotta and co. would have discussed the transfer only for €30M or so. Despite the brouhaha, which is still ongoing, the negotiation didn’t go very far. The outcome of his extension talks will be highly influential.
The price tag of Calhanoglu might decrease a little at the end of the campaign, but Galatasaray’s chase will have to be more concrete than in the past to be successful, and Inter are making plans in case they lose their star, reaching out to the Goretzka camp.
The Nerazzurri inquired about the terms for onboarding the German talisman, who has hefty demands. Napoli might have tried in January, but they aren’t among the favorites now. The competition from abroad, especially the Premier League, will be strong.
He’s having a splendid season despite his injuries, but Piotr Zielinski has been excellent as well in the same role. In the long run, it’s more sustainable to have one ‘regista’ rather than two. They might indeed add a box-to-box, and are one of the few sides that can afford a large salary, and bring back Aleksandar Stankovic if their veteran departs. The Turk is unlikely to stay without a new deal. It’s starting to feel like he’s using the outside interest as leverage.
