Valentin Carboni, on loan with Ligue 1 side Marseille from Inter, has suffered a serious knee injury while away on international duty with Argentina and could potentially miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
They 19-year-old Nerazzurri loanee has ruptured his cruciate ligament (ACL) and will be sidelined for a minimum of six months, although that could be longer and could cast the end of his season just two months into the campaign.
Carboni had been part of Lionel Scaloni’s squad for World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia, but suffered the injury prior to his nation’s 1-1 draw on Thursday night.
Carboni joined Marseille on loan after an impressive spell on loan with Monza in 2022-23.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side agreed to pay a fee of €1m to have him on loan for the season, and also set a buy-clause at €36m. If the deal were to go through, Inter would retain a €40m buy-back clause.
It remains to be seen, however, Carboni’s recent injury could have an impact on Marseille’s decision to sign him permanently or not.
