Inter Consider Sancho as Lookman Saga Rumbles On

Sancho emerges as priority alternative for Inter

While Inter remain engaged in protracted negotiations for Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, another name has quietly moved into sharper focus. Jadon Sancho, once a marquee talent for Manchester United and England, is now being seriously considered as a more attainable, more cost-effective option.

With Lookman missing multiple training sessions and no formal communication received by his club, Atalanta’s stance has hardened. Inter, though prepared to return with an improved offer close to €45 million, have understandably begun to evaluate other possibilities. The name that has surfaced with the most internal support at the Oaktree-led club is Sancho.

Appeal of a reset

From Inter’s point of view, Sancho offers the kind of balance between technical ability, profile, and value that could reshape their right flank. The 24-year-old still has one year remaining on his United contract, but his days at Old Trafford look increasingly numbered.

In contrast to Lookman’s escalating price and disciplinary uncertainties, Sancho’s estimated €25 million valuation represents a controlled investment. “The technical appreciation is total,” notes Gazzetta dello Sport, citing not only Sancho’s youth but also his compatibility with Inter’s tactical structure. In a squad now driven by pragmatism and financial clarity, his acquisition would not require the tax breaks of Italy’s Growth Decree, making him a cleaner fit financially than retaining Lookman.

Inter’s cautious flexibility

While Inter wait for clarity from Atalanta, their approach to Sancho signals a subtle shift. This is not a club scrambling for alternatives. It is a club planning for every eventuality, maintaining pressure in the Lookman talks while acknowledging that value may lie elsewhere.

Should Lookman’s absence stretch into a third consecutive session without explanation, Atalanta may yet soften. But Inter’s gaze is already drifting towards Manchester, where a different kind of opportunity awaits.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

The idea of Jadon Sancho being linked with a permanent move to Inter feels both overdue and bittersweet. Everyone knows the talent is there. The issue, as ever, has been everything else: form, confidence, consistency and off-pitch fit.

If this is truly the summer where a reset is needed, then Inter may well be the right club. Serie A can offer a slower tempo, a tactical education, and a platform to rebuild, just as it has for countless others. And for United, a clean break could benefit both parties.

The reported €25 million valuation feels low, but the reality is United will struggle to recoup anywhere near what they paid Borussia Dortmund. That ship has sailed. What matters now is finding a buyer who believes Sancho can be salvaged, and who is prepared to give him a run of games and a system that suits.

What fans do not want is a repeat of last season: a highly paid, unused asset parked on the sidelines while the team struggles for creativity. If Inter are willing to commit and Sancho is ready to embrace the challenge, this could be a transfer that works for all involved.
