Inter have taken a significant step toward bringing João Cancelo back to the San Siro, having reached a verbal agreement with Al Hilal. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Nerazzurri have found common ground with the Saudi club over the general terms of a transfer, marking a major breakthrough in negotiations.

Notably, while the club-to-club agreement is in place, the deal is not yet finalized. Contacts with super-agent Jorge Mendes are ongoing as the parties work to iron out the finer details of the move. Consequently, the Portuguese full-back has requested a couple of days to reflect and make a final decision on his future.

Furthermore, Inter are not the only European giant monitoring the situation. Barcelona remain interested in re-signing their former loanee, though the Blaugrana’s pursuit is complicated by their ongoing financial constraints. Indeed, the player’s prior history with both Inter and Barça adds an extra layer of intrigue to his decision-making process.

As things stand, the ball is firmly in Cancelo’s court. Should he give the green light, Inter are prepared to move swiftly to integrate him into Cristian Chivu’s squad for the second half of the 2026 campaign.
