Inter have hit a standstill in negotiations for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and reports in Italy claim that the Nerazzurri are ready to turn to Roma’s Niccolo Pisilli instead, with the Giallorossi still needing to make sales before the end of the month.

Liverpool and Inter hit Jones impasse, Pisilli alternative

It has been a disappointing start to the summer transfer window for the 2025-26 domestic double winners, who have missed out on the signings of Marco Palestra to Chelsea and Nico Paz to Como.

A deal for Liverpool midfielder Jones appears to be fading away as well: Inter had been hoping to secure a deal for a fee in the region of €25m for the 25-year-old Englishman, who is heading into the final year of his contract at Anfield.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been demanding a fee closer to €40m (£35m), potentially with additional bonuses and add-ons, and with a significant salary factored into the equation, it appears that Inter are unwilling to satisfy these requests and the Corriere dello Sport describes the situation as a ‘stalemate’.

This leaves Inter ready to turn to alternative profiles in midfield, and the Corriere dello Sport suggests that Pisilli is the next target on the Nerazzurri list.

Monday’s report claims that the 21-year-old is valued in the region of €25m, the same amount that Inter had been offering for Jones, and Pisilli currently earns a much lower salary compared to the Englishman, of around €2.5m per season including bonuses.

If Roma are open to the sale, negotiations could move quickly, as the Giallorossi are still needing to make sales before June 30 in order to comply with the terms of their financial fair play settlement agreement with UEFA. As Pisilli is an academy product, any transfer fee would be recorded as a pure capital gain.
