Inter Reaping Rewards for Pouncing Early on Starlet

Petar Sucic wasted little time in showcasing his talent once Henrikh Mkhitaryan suffered a serious thigh injury, helping Inter down Fiorentina with a very classy goal. The youngster is poised for a consistent run since the veteran will miss about a month.

According to Sportitalia, the Nerazzurri moved very early to acquire him from Dinamo Zagreb and are now enjoying the fruits of their intuition and determination. Several sides tried to purchase him last January, but they were all rebuffed. Director Piero Ausilio had already sealed the deal in late 2024, albeit not officially. The management had long identified him as an ideal target and acted on it even though he was sidelined by a metatarsal fracture at the time.

Inter paid €14M plus €2.5M for Sucic, which already looks like a bargain. The vote of confidence in a difficult stretch of the talent’s career contributed to the success of the operation. The Nerazzurri put pen to paper only in due time, but the race was decided months before.

Milan lodged an inquiry after the midfielder returned to the pitch, while Juventus had a call with Dinamo Zagreb’s brass during the winter window. They didn’t make him budge from his decision. Neither did Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, which submitted larger bids.

Our Take on Inter and Sucic

He arguably was brought along a little too slowly, as Mkhitaryan is still a fine player, but the crowded schedule takes a toll on everybody, and the Croat had slightly fallen out of favor after a pair of early underwhelming displays. Christian Chivu has quickly earned the benefit of the doubt with how he handles talents, and the treatment proved to be fruitful, as the 22-year-old showed up on his first big occasion.
