Inter are reportedly set to run at a profit for the first time since 2017-18, as they have halved their losses compared to last season.

The Nerazzurri changed ownership in May when Suning failed to repay the almost €400m loan including interest, so the club was effectively repossessed by Oaktree.

They promoted general manager Beppe Marotta to President and he insists they do not need to sell any star names this summer, because they are already balancing the books.

That is confirmed by Calcio e Finanza, who calculate this will be the first year Inter ran at a profit since 2017-18.

They had reached record losses of €140m in 2021-22, also affected by the Covid crisis that saw revenue plummet and costs rise.

That was reduced to €85m in 2022-23 and expected to be €40m in 2024.

Inter boosted by sponsorship deals and qualification

Although not using official figures yet, the website that specialises in the financial side of football predicts that the revenue for Inter this financial year will be €440m, an increase of €15m from the previous year.

A large boost was received from the extra €24m in commercial revenue following a series of sponsorship deals.

According to their calculations, Inter will in the next year register a €10m profit, the first time they’ve run without losses since 2017-18.

They are also guaranteed future funds from qualifying for the Club World Cup in 2024-25, the newly-expanded Champions League and a Betsson sponsorship deal.

The club still has massive debts, but as some of those were towards Oaktree and they are now the owners, that should drop below €700m.
