The upcoming Derby della Madonnina between Milan and Inter in Serie A on Sunday evening is expected to set a new league record for matchday takings according to the latest reports in Italy.

Sunday’s Serie A headliner will be the battle of second-placed Milan and the league leading Inter, who have a 10-point advantage healing over their city rivals ahead of kick-off. Should Cristian Chivu’s side claim victory, they will move 13 points clear at the top of the table with 10 league games left to go.

There has been much anticipation for Sunday’s derby, which, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, will set a new record for the highest ever takings on a Serie A matchday.

According to Saturday’s report, the upcoming derby is set to bring in more than €8.7m in revenues, which will surpass the previous record of €8.65m that was set during the first leg of this fixture earlier this season.

A sold-out capacity crowd in excess of 75,500 will be in attendance in San Siro tomorrow.
