Inter Women beat Fiorentina 2-0 in their league opener | OneFootball

Inter’s 2026/27 Serie A Women campaign has got off to a flying start: the Nerazzurre secured their first three points of the season with a 2-0 win over Fiorentina at the Arena Civica. It was a hard-fought victory, following on from their Champions League win against Hacken, and confirms a superb start to the season for Sassarini’s side. After ending the first half 0-0 despite creating several chances, the Nerazzurre broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute with a goal from Lina Magull, whilst a header from Raphino sealed the win in the first minute of stoppage time. It was a convincing performance from a team confident in its own strength and game plan – the best possible way to begin their league campaign. THE MATCH

Inter Women’s league campaign got under way on a sunny final Sunday of September, with coach Sassarini making a few changes from the Champions League clash with Hacken. Polli and Raphino led the line, Glionna and Kullberg combined down the right, while Robustellini started on the left. The opening stages were cagey, with Inter seeing more of the ball while Fiorentina stayed compact, closed off the passing lanes and looked to break quickly whenever they regained possession. As the half wore on, however, the Nerazzurre stepped up the pressure and began to create chances. Polli tried her luck twice from distance, while Glionna threatened with a first-time volley at the far post, but the clearest opportunities came in the final ten minutes before the break. The first fell to Polli, who darted into the box and met Raphino’s excellent work down the flank with her left foot, only to see her powerful effort crash against the crossbar. The second came in added time after another well-worked move, with Kullberg timing her run into the area perfectly before sending a tame effort straight at Fiskerstrand.

The Nerazzurre came out for the second half on the front foot and immediately created a double chance through Polli and Santi, whose efforts were both blocked by the Fiorentina defence. Piñones-Arce’s side, however, continued to pose a threat on the counter, looking to exploit the space behind Inter’s high line. Bredgaard went close twice, first on the break and then after making a run towards the far post. Sassarini looked to change the game by introducing Bugeja, Garcia and Andrés, while Piñones-Arce responded by reshuffling her front three. The contest remained open, but it was Inter’s pressure that eventually paid off. Lina Magull scored the Nerazzurre’s first goal of the 2026/27 Serie A season, giving her side a deserved lead in a match that had begun to prove increasingly difficult. In the 72nd minute, a cross from the left was only partially cleared and Magull was first to the loose ball, steering an unstoppable right-footed finish beyond Fiskerstrand for her fifth goal against Fiorentina. The visitors pushed for a response late on, with Hurtig racing towards goal in the 88th minute, but Andrés produced an outstanding sliding challenge to deny her a shot. It was a warning that the contest was not yet over, and Raphino made sure of the victory in the first minute of added time. Vilhjálmsdóttir delivered a superb free-kick into the area and Raphino applied the decisive flick to guide the ball into the corner. Inter finished the game with ten players after Le Bihan received a second yellow card, but the Nerazzurre could celebrate a winning start and their first three points of the league campaign.
