Brazilian giants Flamengo have secured their place in the final of the 2025 Intercontinental Cup following convincing 2-0 victory over Egypt’s Pyramids FC in Saturday’s semi-final.

The South American champions delivered composed performance at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Doha scoring once in each half to end Pyramids impressive run in the tournament.

Flamengo’s Experience proves decisive

Flamengo opened the scoring in the 24 minute when centre-back Leo Pereira rose to meet delivery from Giorgian De Arrascaeta steering the ball home to give the Brazilian side control of the contest.

The result was sealed shortly after the break as veteran defender Danilo doubled Flamengo’s advantage in the 52 minute, once again benefiting from De Arrascaeta’s creative brilliance.

Despite periods of resistance, Pyramids were unable to find way back against side packed with continental pedigree.

Pyramids Exit After historic campaign

Pyramids participated in the Intercontinental Cup as CAF Champions League winners and had already made history by defeating Auckland City and Al Ahli Saudi earlier in the competition to lift the Asia - Africa - Pacific Cup.

Their journey ends at the semi-final stage but the Egyptian club leave Doha having announced themselves on the global stage.

Road to the final

Flamengo qualified for the Intercontinental Cup as CONMEBOL Libertadores champions before earning their semi-final spot by beating Cruz Azul of Mexico to claim the Americas Derby Cup.

With the victory over Pyramids, the Brazilian side now advance to blockbuster final against Paris Saint Germain, the reigning UEFA Champions League holders.

This marks the second edition of the revamped Intercontinental Cup with Real Madrid having lifted the trophy in its inaugural staging last year.
