Internacional appoint Eduardo Baptista for Brasileirão run-in ahead of Corinthians test | OneFootball

Corinthians’ next Brasileirão opponents, Internacional, have named Eduardo Baptista as head coach, the 54-year-old leaving Criciúma to take charge of the relegation-threatened side.

According to ge.globo, his contract runs to the end of the Brasileirão and includes a bonus if he keeps Internacional in Série A. He replaces Uruguayan Paulo Pezzolano, dismissed on Sunday.

Baptista had led Criciúma since May 2025, departing with the club inside the G-6 in Série B. His career began at Sport in 2014 and includes spells with Fluminense, Ponte Preta, Palmeiras, Athletico Paranaense and others.

Despite his experience, this is his first top-flight post since September 2022, when he left Atlético-GO after six matches. Inter currently sit 18th on 28 points, while Corinthians are 14th with 32.

Internacional lost 1-0 at São Paulo in Morumbis last time out, having previously won 2-1 at Chapecoense in Chapecó. Corinthians arrive under pressure after six straight league defeats, starting against Cruzeiro in August and followed by Coritiba, Santos, Chapecoense, Flamengo and Fluminense.

The sides meet on 7 October at 19:30, at Beira-Rio, in the 29th round, after the Super Data Fifa.
